The new SEAR logo - final form (probably)
The new SEAR logo - final form (probably)

It is frustrating to be here on Friday and still not have a public prototype readily available for download, but here we are. It turns out itch has a default maximum file size of 1 GB, a fact which I either managed to miss in my preliminary research or was never stated before the Upload screen, but either way, we're over by half a gig.

The good news is that itch support does state you can contact them to possibly exceed the limit, and I've heard from at least one other dev who has worked with them to bypass the limit in the past.

The bad news is I'm beholden to itch's timetable for getting this issue resolved. I have no doubt they'll get back to me, but it's a free service which I'm sure sees a ton of support tickets, so I'm kind of stuck until they do, and I appreciate the service they're providing far too much to complain about it. I've looked into alternative options, but frankly if you're looking for something that supports a patch-based updating framework specifically for an alpha prototype, itch is really the best, and possibly only, game in town.

That said if we get toward the end of next week and I haven't heard anything, I'll go ahead and post the files directly, either here on the site or out on Github or similar. Not an ideal solution as we want to be pushing frequent updates and I'd much prefer to have those updates come via patches rather than full re-downloads, but a non-ideal solution will be better than no solution at all.

Speaking of frequent updates - this was another rough week for the team as approximately half of us were out or unavailable. Travel and health issues... one member has four kids who all have flu. I have two kids and when they were both sick life was hard enough. I have trouble imagining twice that number of sick children in my home.

Nonetheless, first draft of the subtitle system is in the project now and waiting for me to take a look at it. Game-wise that's pretty much it for this week, but at least it's something (thank you, Chandler!). I was sick myself the first two days of the week, and ended up spending a lot of additional time trying to find ways to solve this prototype issue. Outside of that I was mainly focused on social media and pushing out our new logo and icons to public-facing sites. The website obviously being the primary one that has not seen those updates yet, but it will soon!

These links will be on the page proper soon, but it's still very cool that we have them:

Temerity Youtube channel (finally!) - https://www.youtube.com/@TemerityGamesLLC

Additionally the first draft of the new SEAR logo font for A - Z is complete, and we've started working on the numbers and punctuation.

Hopefully next week I'll have a more game-centric update. In the meantime, stay healthy!
